About

Who Is Bucky?

Anthony “Bucky” Savarese was our grandfather.

In 1914, his family opened 5th Avenue Fish on the corner of 5th Ave and Lincoln Place in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Bucky eventually took over the family business and grew what began as a humble neighborhood fish shop into one of the city’s largest purveyors of fresh seafood. Fifth Avenue Fish was known for its quality, hard work, and for bringing the community together.

Bucky built more than a market — he built a legacy. And while the market closed in 1995, the spirit he instilled in our family never left us. His entrepreneurial drive, his warmth, and his love for feeding people live on in everything we do.

Pizza with a Legacy — Made with Love

Growing up, food was always at the center of our lives — Sundays spent watching our mothers and grandmothers cook with love, sneaking scraps of bread to taste the sauce, or afternoons helping our grandfather tend his meticulous garden in the middle of the concrete jungle, growing the biggest gagootz you’ve ever seen.

We carried that passion and tradition into our home during the quiet of the Covid-19 pandemic. When the world slowed down, making pizza every weekend became a way to stay grounded, to care for one another, and to carry on something that felt familiar. And we quickly fell in love with feeding everyone around us.

Life doesn’t always go as planned. Just weeks before our daughter Olivia was born, Dom was laid off from his job. While the news was hard to swallow at the time, we knew it was a sign. What began as a creative outlet suddenly became our path forward.

With help from our family, the legacy of Grandpa Bucky, and encouragement from those closest to us — Bucky’s Pizza was born.

We set out to make the best pizza we could — honoring old-world technique, natural fermentation, and sourcing the highest-quality ingredients we could find. No shortcuts. No seed oils. No additives. Just real food, made with love.

We left our corporate careers behind to chase something more meaningful: a dream — rooted in tradition, family, and the belief that food made with love has the power to bring people together.

At Bucky’s, every pizza tells a story over 100 years in the making. We’re proud to carry on that legacy
